Tony's Talk - Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained!

I have often wondered why so few of our customers enter The National Fish & Chip Awards; Drywite’s excellent Young Fish Friers’ Competition; or the NFFF’s Quality Awards? Not to win or not to qualify is not a disgrace! It is normally just the opposite for not only gaining kudos from actually entering you will be surprised at how much help and guidance is forthcoming. I well remember the first rally I entered in our elderly Triumph 2000. There were no novice events in those days and I had to jump in at the deep end into a Motoring News Championship round. We failed to finish the Event as my Navigator fell ill just as dawn broke over the Brecon Beacons but boy - did we learn a lot!

Our Trade Awards are there not to massage the egos of the favoured few winners but for a much wider purpose. They provide a platform to raise standards across our Trade for the benefit of all – and surely we wish to run successful businesses in a highly competitive world?

They give us the means to measure ourselves to become aware of our shortcomings, to learn and to implement improvements for the benefit of our Staff our Customers and our Business.

You have only to look at the successful careers being carved out by Young People who entered Drywite’s fantastic competition to see the camaraderie, the exchange of tips and ideas that ensure our Trade’s future in the hands of the next generation.

We never stop learning in this life and by putting yourself forward for a ‘Quality Award’ is a way of achieving an in depth, independent business consultation for relative peanuts. What’s not to like?

...and as for taking part in National Fish & Chip Day? - It’s a no brainer! No cost Publicity!

This Event has become firmly established as a national celebration of our Trade. It gains immense media coverage with Fish & Chips being celebrated throughout the land. The fact that it takes place on a Friday means that you do not have to give product away to attract customers. By joining in the celebration, you have an ideal opportunity to raise the local profile of your business and raise some cash for The Fisherman’s’ Mission or a local charity.

You and your Staff can have some fun – and be seen to be doing some good.
