When eighteen-year-old Vin Whitley started supplying Fish ‘n Chip Shops in 1899 he believed firmly that there should be no short cuts when dealing with foodstuffs. From ‘Helping’ him out from a young age, he drummed into me this maxim and we strive at Whitley’s to live up to his ethos.

We all know that we are being hammered by price increases on our Trade’s essential raw materials. Whitley’s aren’t immune to these increases resulting from last year’s disastrous harvests which gave us much lower yields of wheat, potatoes and other vegetables. Growing global demand has also increased pressure on our fish supplies to add to the mix.

However, because the Whitley’s range of batters, gravies and curries that we manufacture are substantially less expensive than equivalent products from the big national and international brands, it does NOT mean that we use inferior ingredients. The fact that our batters are at least 11 pence per kilo less expensive and our gravies and curries at least50 pence per kilo less expensive does NOT equate to inferior ingredients. 

As the yield per kilo of our products is invariably greater and the fact that our ‘Pulse’ gluten-free batter and ‘Vincent’s Gravy’ won their categories in the CCM/Guild of Chef’s Awards against a host of ‘Own Label’ products from the large national companies is proof enough!

We choose deliberately not to incur heavy advertising costs and thus are able to offer you real value for money in a period where your margins are under pressure.
