NEODA - National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association

Neoda Logo

As a founder member of NEODA, V.A.Whitley stocks a great number of NEODA Approved Fats and Oils which means you can buy your chosen frying medium with the same confidence as we do. Here is a little more about what NEODA is and what we as members do to ensure the quality, consistency, quantity and sustainable and compliant production of your frying oils and fats.

The National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association (NEODA) was established in 1947. Its members include edible oil and fats refiners, processors, distributors and waste oil collectors. The membership also includes manufacturers and suppliers of industry related products including batter mixes, sausages, packaging and potato preservatives.

NEODA’s central principle is adherence to the “Guarantee of Confidence” Scheme. The Scheme ensures that all packs of edible oils and fats sold and distributed by members, adhere to a strict set of requirements concerning product contents, labelling and pack sizes. Only products that meet the stringent set of criteria can carry the ‘Guarantee of Confidence’ logo (as seen above). This logo assures the quality of products, so consumers can purchase them with complete confidence.

As part of the Scheme the Association carries out an Oil Monitoring Programme; independently analysing packs of oils and fats from members and non-members to ensure customers and consumers are not misled as to the nature, quality or quantity of oils being sold in the market. Misleading or illegal products that show signs of adulteration, display false claims or are underweight are brought to the attention of both the manufacturer and the Trading Standards Authorities so further action can be taken.

If Fish and Chip shops want to ensure that the oils and fats they are receiving are packed and labelled honestly and legally, they should look out for the NEODA approved logo and only purchase products displaying this logo.

NEODA is committed to sustainable sourcing, production and consumption practices. As well as being affiliate members of the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil), NEODA works closely with government bodies and other organisations, to ensure sustainable practices are being used within the industry.

NEODA also organises the National Fish and Chip Day event, which started 3 years ago and continues to grow from strength to strength promoting Fish and Chips on a specific focus day. As a sponsor of National Fish and Chip Day, V.A.Whitley continues to urge shops to register their interest in next year’s event, which will take place on Friday 1st June 2018.
